West Virginia University's Board of Governors made the announcement around 12:20 p.m., and The Associated Press' Vicki Smith was there.
The AP story is also here.
MetroNews was also in the boardroom for the announcement, as was The Charleston Gazette.
The official word from WVU is here.

This is so very frustrating. What is it at WVU these days--are they so insecure about being from West Virginia that they are actually afraid to pick someone from outside the state?
This is a very sad day for WVU.
The Iron Law of Oligarchy states that no matter how democratic a state or institution is only a few at the top actually wield power. The ascension of Garrison to the Presidency is a perfect example of this law. The fact that WVU again has a president via cronyism is not the least bit surprising. The worst part of this whole debacle is that West Virginians even fail at cronyism. It blows my mind that of all the states competent elites this is the best we could come up with.
