Sifting Through The 2008 Session

The Associated Press' Tom Breen looks at several of the notable failures from the regular session.

The Charleston Gazette offers a similar view, while focusing separately on a successful measure addressing school bus ride times.

MetroNews echoes AP and The Gazette by starting off with the "Almost Heaven...Wild and Wonderful" highway sign measure.

MetroNews also delves into the alleged Day 60 run-in between a Senate committee chairman and a lobbyist. With audio.

AP also focuses on the outcome for Gov. Joe Manchin's 29-item agenda.

It is great to see that most of the nanny state bills (where we can talk on cell phones or drive certain motor vehicles; what employers can discuss with their employees; telling employers in more detail who they must hire; rewarding a few people who made poor personal choices with their retirement accounts, etc.) didn't make it through. Our legislators did have the time, however, to decide who should take which bus to school, etc. and they'll be reconvening to give away our hard-earned dollars to reward a few who misallocated their 401k money. Overall, it's not much worse than if they hadn't met at all, but not meeting would still have been an improvement.
