"I will not appoint myself. I will not do that."
-- Gov. Joe Manchin, when asked by The Charleston Gazette "if he would appoint himself to the U.S. Senate in the event that ailing Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., is unable to complete his term."

The fact that someone had to ask that question says something about the Governor. How about the logical follow-up question: Will you appoint your wife? Nick Casey? Who?
You have to bet he'd appoint someone who would be willing to step down and let him have the office when the term is up.
The plan I heard is that he will appoint his wife.
