Jerry Mitchell, the investigative reporter whose articles helped reopen numerous unsolved murders and other crimes during the 1960s struggle for civil rights, will speak Tuesday at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.
The Parkersburg News and Sentinel, a co-sponsor of the free event, notes that "as a result of Mitchell’s investigations, authorities in Mississippi and six other states have reexamined 29 killings from the civil rights era resulting in 23 convictions."
